Assessing Adam Warlock’s Potential Impact in the MCU

Following the release of James Gunn’s MCU swan song, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Fans and audiences alike were treated to the introduction of yet another iconic Marvel Comics character, Adam Warlock.

The character has a storied history in the comics. Dating as far back as 1967 and with The Multiverse Saga heating up; not to mention the seemingly M.I.A nature of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. The world and the galaxy at large may have just found its next heavy hitter that will be sure to keep villains at bay.

How Powerful is Adam Warlock?

From the classic super powers like super speed, strength, flight, energy beam projection and so on to more obscure powers like clairvoyance, telepathy and teleportation. Adam Warlock has it all [at least in the comics] and could prove to be a handful for many MCU characters — should they choose to stand against him.

Can Adam Warlock Beat Captain Marvel?

Put simply, yes. There is no doubt that Captain Marvel is considered one of (if not) the most powerful character in the MCU. But the presence of Adam Warlock could tip the scales.

Provided the MCU sticks closely to the source material/comics and enough time has passed for Adam Warlock to be fully integrated into the MCU — as well as fleshed out.

Since his Vol. 3 appearance can be considered as a prologue version of the character.

Next Appearance?

An obvious bet would be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4 (or whatever subtext they choose to use). Especially since the character becomes a part of the new roster for the cosmic team at the end of Vol. 3.

Seeing as James Gunn has left the MCU in totality to bring up a DC cinematic universe. It will most certainly be a [long] while before the Guardians grace the big screen once again. Although other sure bets include either one or both of the upcoming Avengers movies that are set to wrap up this burgeoning saga.

But even those projects may not give Adam Warlock enough legroom as they will be juggling a multitude of characters with only enough time for main/established characters to be explored. Leaving many of the other characters underutilized or simply sidelined (which is usually the case with ensemble projects).

As earlier stated, the comics version of the character is not to be trifled with and following his induction into the MCU. Only time will tell just how his live-action counterpart fairs in comparison. Because if done right, the hierarchy of power may have just changed.

And as such, the character in later years could rise to prominence within the franchise.
