Could the Tomorrow-verse Be Gearing Up For Another Franchise Reset?

The Tomorrow-verse, DC’s new interconnected animated universe consisting solely of films is set to hit a milestone. As it seeks to adapt one of the property’s most renowned comic book titles, Crisis on Infinite Earths.

A comic book crossover event that has been adapted in almost all its glory, courtesy of the now defunct Arrowverse.

However, where the Arrowverse might have been limited in its creative choices to faithfully adapt the comic storyline. It seems to the Tomorrow-verse will deliver. As the upcoming adaptation is set to be split into three parts.

Which makes a whole lot of sense, so as to avoid breezing through such an expansive storyline. As DC’s animated movies are known to have significantly shorter runtimes when compared to their live action counterparts.

Therefore, splitting the feature is the right way to go, if a serialised format is not what is to be used.

A Possible Reset

Another issue with adapting a story such as this one, can hint at yet another reset for the animated universe. Since the storyline is in fact a crisis event that rewrote the DC Comics continuity.

With James Gunn now mapping out a new continuity for DC as a whole. Perhaps, this is how the animated faction of DC readies itself for the franchise overhaul set to take place — in a not-so distant future.

While it has been stated that the shift of DCU’s upcoming animated series, Creature Commandos to 2025 was because of the project’s progress. It could also be possible that decisions concerning the DC brand overhaul as it relates to the crisis event about to be explored in the Tomorrow-verse being a factor for such course of action.

Whatever the case, the Tomorrow-verse looks to deliver a fulfilling adaptation as James Gunn and company readies DC for a new era.

Furthermore, with both the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes now in the rear view mirror. Plans concerning the future of DC brand and franchise will eventually be made clearer to audiences.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Pt. 1 is set to release January 24, 2024.
