Dune Part Two: First Movie to Hit a Billion Dollars in 2024?

Already amassing over 500 million USD in box office revenues with a stellar 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Dune Part Two is well on its way to becoming a blockbuster success story much like its predecessor.

The spring season isn’t usually a time for blockbuster or tentpole entries. That have become accustomed to the summer season. Which is why Dune Part Two releasing during this period where it has little to no competition for box office glory is a smart move.

With the next most anticipated blockbuster entry of the year still a ways off. Dune Part Two is more or less primed for even more success at the box office.

Even in a competitive setting, Dune Part Two would have still been a success but with its current position in the midst of smaller entries. This writer genuinely believes Dune Part Two has what it takes to cross the billion dollar mark.

Granted the merits of Dune Part Two are beyond its financial revenue. As referenced by its aforementioned stellar rating. But since studios are only willing to finance projects that yield return on investment.

It is essential that projects such as Dune Part Two also do well at the global box office. And considering its current streak there’s no telling how much the movie will soar at the box office.



Positioning Makes or Mars a Movie’s Revenue


To further expantiate, an example of how positioning could counter a movie’s revenue, can be seen in last year’s Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1.

While the movie was truly beloved by all who saw it. Its earnings was however eclipsed by the bombastic double feature of Barbenheimer. With both movies raking in at least over 800 million USD at the global box office.

Dune Part Two is just less than a month old in cinemas and has already made a considerable amount. Turning in profit already.

So it therefore stands to reason that given time in the coming weeks ahead. It could undoubtedly rake in more funds for the studio. Who at this point have no choice but announce the greenlight of a proposed third movie, Dune: Messiah or Dune Part Three.
