MCU: Nick Fury Appearance Hints at Intriguing Connection Between Secret Invasion and The Marvels Timeline!

While Nick Fury has certainly been something of a Godfather in the MCU, 2023 looks to actually be his year as the character will not only headline his first project in Secret Invasion; but could also be a major player in The Marvels. Beyond these though, the character boasts a storied history in the MCU and so the future could still hold some more adventures for the secretive mastermind. However, his difference in appearance in both Secret Invasion and The Marvels could hint at how these two projects align in the MCU timeline.

Comparing The Appearances of Nick Fury

Starting with Secret Invasion, Nick Fury seems to have a more grizzled and veteran look, not to mention he also seems to have done away with his iconic eyepatch. With this, there comes an obvious ‘old man’ air or energy about him signifying a retirement phase for the character beyond this through the glimpses we get of him from the trailers. However, the same can’t be said for The Marvels that features a more age conforming Nick Fury, who still favours the eyepatch.
Therefore, it stands to reason that the change in appearance is mostly intentional and not just to serve an aesthetic value.

The Timeline Effect

If the above observations are to be dissected, it could mean that even though Secret Invasion releases before The Marvels; its events in-universe happen after the events of The Marvels. Hence, supporting why Nick Fury looks more advanced in age in Secret Invasion. This, of course wouldn’t be the first time Marvel Studios have pulled such a stunt despite the usually progressive nature of their ever-growing timeline. Then there’s also the fact that The Marvels was initially set to kick-start Phase 5 before it traded places with the Ant-Man threequel. Only time will tell if looks really aren’t to be trusted.

GOTG Vol. 3 may have recently come out but it looks like fans won’t have to wait too long this time for the next MCU endeavour with Secret Invasion set to start its streaming run June 21, while The Marvels is still a long way off, releasing in cinemas Nov. 10.
