MCU TV Shows and Their Futures
The MCU may have created an envious franchise over the course of The Infinity Saga. But the end of that saga certainly put franchise on a path of a reset. Which meant the MCU has had to get experimental just like they once had to at the inception of the franchise. But given how big the franchise has gotten.
That experimentation would translate to creating in-franchise series that would directly link to the feature films. This experimentation by the MCU would lead to varying degrees of successes. Largely because the MCU initially patterned a lot of the series in one direction. Treating them as one-offs, with potential pay-offs to occur in feature films.
But the problem arises when the feature films are not forthcoming and setups are constantly being made judging by the amount of series that the MCU has and is willing to churn out. With each subsequent phase.
Using the current slate of released MCU shows. We can figure out those that could potentially get subsequent seasons as well as those not liable to get any more seasons.
MoonKnight
Though the series was polarizing to put simply. It is still deserving of a second season at least. This would help to provide answers to the perplexing cliffhanger of the show’s first season finale. Also the second season would help to organically integrate the titular into the MCU. As this premiere season was removed from the franchise and only connected to the MCU in name.
Ms. Marvel
Despite already making an appearance in a feature after her serialized MCU introduction. Kamala Khan is still deserving of a solo sophomore season, largely because of the sake of the supporting characters that are peculiar to her story. Namely, Kamran who we last saw being whisked away to Karachi. Furthermore, a second season could be used to adapt the latter issues of Ms. Marvel‘s premiere comic book series and used to prep the character for Secret Wars in the MCU which of course is set to close out The Multiverse Saga.
WandaVision
Though a second season would certainly cross the mind. The way and manner in which the MCU series played lent itself to a more closeted affair. Regardless of Scarlet Witch’s mortality in Multiverse of Madness and the multiple spinoffs being birth from it. The series’ one-off execution is absolutely proper and shows not every series has to trudge past one season.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier
Another series that has morphed into the big screen realm. With this, there’s no reasonable way both characters can share the small screen space. An issue which star Anthony Mackie has been vocal about missing. However, if Sam Wilson’s Falcon hadn’t taken up the mantle at the end of the MCU series. It’s possible the series could have scored another season of buddy-cop antics with its two titular characters.
Hawkeye
Though the promise of Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop/Hawkeye appearance in future MCU projects is assured. Thanks largely to a cameo in The Marvels. The character is also deserving of a sophomore season. Especially since the finale saw Clint seemingly passed down his mantle of Hawkeye to her. A second season would help grow Kate Bishop into the role of Hawkeye by showing her take up solo adventures as she did in the comics which inspired the premiere season of Hawkeye.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law
Owing to her fourth wall antics and her obvious connection to the MCU via Bruce Banner/Hulk. Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk is less deserving of a solo sophomore season. Especially since the first season didn’t do much to progress the Multiverse narrative and the character was the only focus.
Secret Invasion
Ordinarily the series should have been nothing less than 3 seasons long. But the MCU wanting to rush through things led to an unintelligible end of the series which as assured that the future of the series remains a closed topic.
What If…?
The first animated endeavour from the MCU. Already is one of the few shows to score a sophomore season with a third on the way. The premise upon which the series rests on is one that can ensure for continuity even beyond the Multiverse Saga. So much so that even a spinoff in the form of Marvel Zombies has also materialized alongside subsequent seasons.
Loki
With the two seasons it boasts, the series may have come to an end. But a future appearance by Loki in the MCU is still expected. In two seasons, Loki did well to ensure the majority of what was setup was paid off. Which is why many rate the MCU as the best thing to have come from the franchise in recent times.
X-Men’97
The latest serialized endeavour from the MCU. That also doubles as a revival of a project from a long-ago era is off to a good start and while we await to see if it will stick the landing. The faith the MCU has in the series has taken over with at least 2 more seasons reported to be in development. If this move feels familiar, it’s safe to say animation for the MCU is a guaranteed win.
Going forward, the MCU has also stated it will treat its series with an eye towards continuity. This would certainly help the stories within the shows have more breadth since the episode count of six hasn’t really been favourable for a number of the MCU series.
