SkyMed Season 2: Hayley Repeats the ‘Mixing Business with Pleasure’ trope.
The acclaimed Canadian medical drama series, SkyMed returns for a sophomore outing. And akin to many sophomore outings, it has done well introduce new elements which the nurses and pilots of Northhouse will have to either contend with or get used to. Whilst also giving the past its much needed showcase.
Nurse Hayley Roberts stands tall as the point of discourse but not because of her very obvious battle with cancer but rather her sexual exploits.
In a show that features predominantly young adults, there’s bound to be sexual desires and exploits involved. Which is also why SkyMed, doesn’t shy away from its romantic subplots.
As for how Hayley’s romantic/sexual exploits this season compare to the previous season. It is basically through a plot device audiences should be familiar with in most rom-coms.
Which is when the two characters involved start from a place of professionalism and then end up overfamiliarising themselves.
This tend leads co-workers to evolve into lovers, effectively birthing the phrase, “mixing business with pleasure”.
How Hayley Does It in Season One
In SkyMed season 1, Hayley has a fling with Bodie which later complicates their lives and relationship for the rest of that season. Especially for Bodie, whose (pregnant) girlfriend, Maddison oozes with disappointment and betrayal. Because what was intended as a one night stand since Bodie had proclaimed his admission into Air Canada, comes to naught.
Hence, the constant promixity between Hayley and Bodie stirs up something more. Even though, the former had said that they keep their relationship professional. Thus showcasing how business mixes with pleasure.
How Hayley Does It in Season Two
In SkyMed season 2, Hayley and Bodie are now a thing of the past. With the latter now solely focused on raising up his new born with now former girlfriend turned co-parent, Maddison.
However, Hayley’s romantic desires now has a new place to rest its head. Which is with cargo pilot turned chief, Wheezer.
Of course, at first, their flirtations are met with caution and when things almost go too far. Hayley is the first to retract by stating their obvious relationship as co-workers.
But when all is said and done, Hayley is also the first to make the definitive move that cements this unlikely romance. And with that, business mixes with pleasure, yet again.
While it might seem like Hayley is the only one perpetuating this notion, pilot Lexi can also be charged with this.
As she initially denies her feelings for nurse Stef, all in the name of the work. But eventually gives in when those feelings only grow overtime rather than diminish.
It then remains to see if others within the SkyMed crew will perpetuate this notion as the season/series continues.
Season 1 of SkyMed is available for download or streaming. With Season 2 being released on a weekly basis, every Sunday.
