Sony Spider-Man Universe: The Releases of the Year

The aptly named, Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSU), which is Sony’s second attempt at utilizing elements from the Spider-Man mythos for an interconnected big screen experience.

But thus far, Venom has been the only one leading the charge with two earlier feature films. With Morbius trailing close behind with a feature back in 2022.

However, 2024 is throwing the doors wide for the franchise. Thanks partly to the twin strikes of 2023. Several projects from the franchise that were scheduled for release last year have been pushed to this year. Therefore, making the only Sony Spider-Man Universe film set for release this year have companions.

This crowded Sony Spider-Man Universe release schedule also helps to make sure the Marvel fandom isn’t starved of theatrical content. Since the forerunner, the MCU only has Deadpool 3 on its theatrical slate for 2024.

Hence, the following are the theatrical projects to expect from the Sony Spider-Man Universe:

MADAME WEB

Follows the story of a clairvoyant New York paramedic whose life seemingly becomes intertwined with three young women who are also part of the Spider-Man mythos.

As expected, this iteration of the titular character will drastically differ from the version hardcore fans are used to both in the comics and the 1990s animated series. But will it be better?. Only time will tell.

KRAVEN THE HUNTER

Another notable Spider-Man villain, gets the big screen treatment. Though with the obvious absence of the wall crawler, Kraven like other SSU projects will be the hero of his story.

So expect more antihero antics we’ve come to expect from Sony Spider-Man centric projects.

However, the trailer has hinted at the intense brutality and violence the film will feature. So unlike Madame Web, fans can expect a more faithful adaptation of the titular character.

Save for the obvious absence of Spidey, once again.

VENOM 3

The over-popular black symbiote, Venom is scoring an expected threequel which could put the character at a lesser highlight in the future of the SSU.

But whether or not that is the case, the volatile partnership between Eddie Brock and Venom will be fun to revisit as the duo will mostly likely face off against yet another symbiote.

Venom 3 opens in cinemas November 8, 2024.
