Why Black Adam Fits into the DCU Chapter 1
Black Adam in the DCU should be a given as the famed DC antihero is not only known for his popularity but also his qualities. His quality as one of the most powerful figures in the DC fictional space.
His powers may present themselves as a copy of the more famous Shazam. But however, they are just as potent.
The character who embodies the Black Adam persona, known as Teth Adam makes his powers more lethal in the way he discharges them. Which is something that gives him an edge over the more brightly coloured and heroic Shazam.
Though the merger that led to the formation of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) may have upended The Rock’s Black Adam to do battle with Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel. Such could still happen in this new DC cinematic rollout.
Black Adam in the DCU
Black Adam’s inclusion into this DCU and especially its first chapter being dubbed, ‘Gods and Monsters’ holds true for the character. As he easily personfies both.
With his powers being god-like and his use of them being nothing short of monstrous. Even the ill-fated Black Adam feature made sure that the character’s brutality was on full display. As he worked his way through both the antagonistic factors in the movie and the Justice Society of America (JSA).
Of course, the moniker of God or Monster cuts across a large number of the characters that already have a cemented place in the DCU.
But for most of them, the case is usually one or the other. For instance, Supes also possesses god-like abilities, but him becoming a monster can only exist as a hypothetical and in fact a metaphor for some. But in all, never literal.
Black Adam is one character who can proudly carry the weight of both monikers without it ever weighing him down.
Which is why his inclusion in the DCU’s first chapter is important and should be considered. Regardless of whether or not The Rock’s promise on a possible return are valid.
So with James Gunn still yet to roll out the full DCU Chapter 1 slate. This writer is hopeful Black Adam finds his way into the mix.
Chapter 1 of the DCU officially begins when Superman opens in cinemas July 11, 2025.
